4 Teens Follow an Inebriated Girl With Her “Father” When a Hunch Tells Them That Something Feels Off

On a night like any other, four Canadian teens were confronted with a terrifying situation: an inebriated young girl, being dragged through an underground parking garage by a man who claimed to be her father, seemingly against her will. What the young men did next would have them hailed as heroes.

Arnaud Nimenya, Carsyn Wright, James Hielema and Starlyn Rives-Perez were skateboarding in an underground parking lot at their local mall when they first saw the man and the young girl. The man was well-dressed and forcefully walking with a 15-year-old young woman, who appeared to be very drunk and disgruntled:

“She was screaming and yelling. She just wanted to be out of there. She was all scuffed up and dirty,” said Wright, one of the skateboarders.

Right off the bat, the boys knew something was wrong. They approached the man to ask him some questions about the situation, but he insisted that he was her “father” and that everything was alright.

When the young woman didn’t ask the boys for help or contradict what the man was saying, the skateboarders reluctantly decided to believe him and move along.

“You don’t want to really think of the worst in somebody like that. You don’t want that situation to be real, so you just brush it off and hope for the best,” Wright said.

But even after they left the parking garage, the four skateboarders still didn’t feel quite right about the situation. So, they decided to turn around a few minutes after leaving and check on the girl, just in case.

Well, it’s a good thing that they did.

When the boys arrived back on the scene, they saw that the man was sexually assaulting the young woman.

“You walk in, and you see something like that, and you freeze. You don’t know what to do,” Nimenya, another one of the young men, said.

That shock quickly faded though, and the teenagers sprang into action. However, when they approached the attacker, he abandoned the young woman and attempted to escape the parking garage.

“He was trying to walk out and walk away from us,” said Nimenya. “He pushed me aggressively out of the way, kinda like just gives me the smile, like, ‘I can do this. You can’t do anything about it.’”

Refusing to let him get away, three of the young men chased the attacker while one stayed behind with the intoxicated girl.

It wasn’t long before they caught up with the man, and unfortunately, the interaction ended up in a physical confrontation when the man picked up one of their skateboards and began to attack the teens. Thankfully, the police showed up soon after and arrested the man.

The young woman was safe and the four teens luckily left the situation unscathed, but the local police weren’t about to let these brave boys get away without some kind of public recognition.

To thank them for their heroism, the police department invited them to the Chief’s Awards Gala. All four would receive an award from Chief Const. Roger Chaffin in recognition for their exceptional bravery, something they certainly deserve.

What do you think about these brave teenagers doing the right thing, no matter how scary it must have been? Make sure to share this story with your friends and family!

It’s Official — Science Says That Eating Chocolate Every Day Is Good for Your Brain

Fudge. Brownies. Chocolate bars. Drool. We love them all. And if you’re a chocolate lover like us, have we got some good news for you.

You probably already know that dark chocolate have been proven in the past to be good for your heart and overall cardiovascular health, which is great. And now research is saying it’s also good for another part of our bodies—our brains!

A new study published in Frontiers in Nutrition by researchers at the University of L’Aquila found that consumption of cocoa-flavored treats—regular consumption to be exact, like eating it every single day—can improve certain aspects of brain function, specifically attention, processing speed, working memory and verbal fluency.

But perhaps the most unexpected (yet awesome) news is that the study found chocolate helped older adults who are at risk for memory decline or other mild cognitive impairments.

“Regular intake of cocoa and chocolate could indeed provide beneficial effects on cognitive functioning over time,” said review authors Valentina Socci and Michele Ferrara.”This result suggests the potential of cocoa flavanols to protect cognition in vulnerable populations over time by improving cognitive performance.

The reason for this benefit? It’s due to the cocoa flavanols in chocolate and how it affects a vital part of the brain. “If you look at the underlying mechanism, the cocoa flavanols have beneficial effects for cardiovascular health and can increase cerebral blood volume in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus,” Socci explains. “This structure is particularly affected by aging and therefore the potential source of age-related memory decline in humans.”

There were a few other benefits in study too—it also found that eating cocoa helped young and healthy adults perform better on difficult cognitive tests.

This is all some pretty amazing news, but it makes us wonder: Even though chocolate does have a good reps sometimes (heart health, brain health), it also gets a bad rep if you eat too much of it. So how much chocolate and cocoa is actually smart to incorporate into our daily diets?

“There are potential side effects of eating cocoa and chocolate,” Socci says. “Those are generally linked to the caloric value of chocolate, some inherent chemical compounds of the cocoa plant such as caffeine and theobromine, and a variety of additives we add to chocolate such as sugar or milk.”

That means it’s not necessarily about how much you add to your diet, it’s about trying to limit chocolate with lots of added sugar and other added ingredients—the less the better. In addition, keep an eye out for dark chocolate, which has more health benefits and is more likely to contain less additives in it. That’s the stuff to go for.

Don’t be afraid to treat yourself to a piece of chocolate—even if it’s every day! And hey, if you have a test or big assignment at work coming up that you really need to use your brain for, maybe sneaking a piece of dark chocolate wouldn’t hurt.

Are you a chocolate fan? Did you know chocolate had these brain-boosting benefits?

Mom Posts Video Of Herself Breastfeeding 4-Year-Old Daughter And The Internet Has A Lot To Say About It

It seems like these days everyone has their own opinion about breastfeeding. Whether it’s that you’re super anti-formula and you believe you have to breast feed in order for your child to grow up healthy, or you think that breast feeding in public is terrible, no matter what, it seems like moms get ridiculed for anything related to feeding their babies.

In the case of 35-year-old Leanne Allerton, this mom was ridiculed for breast feeding her daughter Poppy who’s a lot older than the average baby you’d typically breast feed. She’s actually not even a baby. She’s four years old—and still getting her milk supply directly from the source. In her video, Leanne also talked about how she breastfed her son Georgie until he was four as well.

The mom regularly vlogs about breastfeeding on her YouTube channel, and has lots of subscribers. One particular video has racked up over a million views, but not necessarily because of her fans. In fact, it seems she’s gained quite a bit of enemies over this one, which shows Poppy getting breast feed. The majority of people who saw it believe that Poppy is much too old to still be getting breast fed.

“How do you expect your child to grow and prosper socially when they are still relying on your boobs for sustenance?” someone angrily wrote.

“This isn’t natural. This is not wanting your child to grow up. It’s not necessary. It’s sickening honestly,” someone else commented.

So what’s Leanne’s reason for breastfeeding her daughter so long? “People say to me that Poppy relies on me too much but it is not about that,” she clarified. ‘It’s our time and it benefits her. It is just our routine and our life and it’s just the way it is.”

But that excuse still didn’t even settle some people.

“You can bond by holding and cuddling. I mean, imagine going to school and breastfeeding – he doesn’t need breast milk this old,” someone wrote in response to her reasoning.

“Mom should find another way to bond—she needs to accept she’s a child and not a baby—and let her be a kid,” another person stated.

That doesn’t mean it’s always been sunshine and roses for Leanne in terms of breast feeding. She’s had her share of dry milk spells and things of the sort, but she says she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Despite the haters, Leanne is proud of herself for coming as far as she has. “Now when I look back I realize it has been just over eight years that I have been breastfeeding,” Leanne said. “It’s quite a large chunk of time and I am quite proud of myself. I am happy that I have done it.”

To check out her vlog, which has actual footage of her breast feeding her four-year-old, check out the video below.

At what age do you feel it’s appropriate to breast feed until? How do you feel about Leanne breast feeding her daughter at age four? What did you think of her points in the video?

Starting in May, Smoking Will Be Completely Banned Inside Walt Disney Theme Parks

Disney is instituting a new ban that will prohibit smoking inside their theme parks. Its current policy allows it at designated smoking areas throughout their properties.

The change was announced via blog post on the Disney website and states the new policy will go into effect on May 1 of this year.

“Also beginning May 1, smoking areas will no longer be present inside Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks, water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex or Downtown Disney in California.”

Guests can smoke or vape outside the parks at the entrances, or in the designated areas at their hotels and resorts. Currently, no smoking is allowed inside hotel rooms or on the balconies.

Rules on stroller sizes are also being changed and larger strollers will no longer be permitted. Disney states that all these changes are being made so that everyone can have an enjoyable experience.

Smoke-free laws are being enacted and enforced throughout the country to reduce public health issues related to tobacco use, secondhand smoke, and vaping. Recently, Los Angeles County banned smoking, e-cigarettes, and marijuana use in or around county facilities as well as within 25 feet of outdoor restaurant seating areas.

Were you aware that Disney had smoking areas inside the park? How do you feel about the rule update? Your thoughts on smoking bans?

71-year-old severely beaten after road rage incident – family asks Facebook to help find thug

To imagine our parents – or indeed any elder relatives – being attacked and hurt is something that’s too much for bear for most of us.

And yet it was the nightmare Amy Jane Johnson was forced to endure when her father-in-law was brutally assaulted in front of his own home in the East Bethel/Ham Lake area, Minnesota, on March 2, this year.

In an apparent act of road rage, Amy’s partner’s dad was set upon after being followed home, and beaten so badly he suffered multiple broken bones and required countless stitches.

The incident
According to reports, Amy Jane Johnson’s father-in-law, who has not been identified, was tailed to his address after crossing wires with another driver. Said driver followed him back to his home, before parking his car in a hidden location and committing a serious assault.

The perpetrator is said to have beaten Amy’s father-in-law for over a full minute – a significantly long time for an assault – before asking, “Have you had enough?”

Following the violent encounter, the victim was able to get to his feet, make his way inside the house and call for help.

Now, Amy’s issuing an urgent plea for people to help locate and bring to justice the man who attacked her father-in-law.

Finding the perp

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 35-years-old, 6 feet tall, with short hair. On the night of the incident he was wearing a longer-length leather coat or jacket. His car is described as a new dark silver or grey vehicle, perhaps a Mustang, with tinted dark windows.

Police said they believe “there are people who may have information about this attack” and encouraged them to call the sheriff’s office at 763-427-1212 or leave an anonymous tip on its website.

Do you also think this act of violence towards a senior citizen is completely unforgivable? If so, help us and help Amy by sharing this article.

The more people that see this, the more chance they have of finding the man responsible!

Science Says That Having a Sister is Actually Good for Your Mental Health

Raise your hand if you have a sister. She’s had a greater impact on your life than you probably ever realized.

Raise your hand if you are a sister. You’ve had a greater impact on your siblings’ lives than you probably ever realized. Read on for bragging rights.

A study conducted by researchers at Brigham Young University found that having a sibling, whether that sibling is a brother or a sister, encouraged children to be helpful, kind and to do good deeds. For example, a child with a sibling would be more likely to help someone at school.

Sure, parents can help promote good deeds, but having at least one sibling made it twice as likely that children would do good deeds.

Now, if your sibling happens to be a sister, it gets even better. Yes, even if your sister is younger than you and is always taking your favorite sweater without asking.

According to the study, “Statistical analyses showed that having a sister protected adolescents from feeling lonely, unloved, guilty, self-conscious and fearful. It didn’t matter whether the sister was younger or older, or how far apart the siblings were agewise.”

Of the families who participated in the study, 395 had at least 2 children, one of whom was 10 to 14 years old. To confirm the data, researchers followed up with each family one year after the original data was collected. The adolescents who had a sister showed clear benefits.

One theory about why having a sister boosts happiness during adolescence is that girls tend to communicate more than boys. That gives them an edge when it comes to talking about problems. It’s also more common for girls to take on a caregiver role which can be helpful when dealing with tween and teen drama. Whatever the reason, be sure to say “thanks” to your sister.

If you’re a parent of young children, you can learn a lot from this study. One major takeaway is that it’s important to encourage your children to be affectionate towards each other. According to Laura Padilla-Walker, a Brigham Young University professor and the lead author on the research, “Once they get to adolescence, it’s going to be a big protective factor.”

You also don’t need to worry if your children fight a lot. Apparently, even fighting is beneficial. Padilla-Walker believes sibling fights help the children learn how to manage their emotions and learn how to make up. These are both important life skills.

Padilla-Walker adds, “An absence of affection seems to be a bigger problem than high levels of conflict.”

Does it surprise you to learn that having a sister is so beneficial?

Six-stone emaciated man, 64, who was left starving and unable to stand but still deemed ‘fit to find work’ DIES in hospital after benefits bosses denied him handouts

A six-stone emaciated man who was deemed ‘fit to find work’ by the DWP has died.

Stephen Smith, 64, died on Monday, after struggling with a number of severe health problems.

His case hit the headlines recently when a fitness for work assessment by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) denied him vital benefits.

Shocking images showed the 64-year-old Liverpool man emaciated in hospital after he was admitted with pneumonia.

However, despite his glaringly obvious poor health and worrying weight loss, Mr Smith was forced to leave hospital to fight a decision by the DWP which insisted he was fit and capable of finding work.

He won the appeal after a tribunal judge saw he could barely walk down the street let alone hold down a job.

And after finally agreeing to re-instate his benefit, the DWP confirmed he would also receive back-payments for the money he was wrongly denied.

Mr Smith was left with £67 a week Jobseeker’s Allowance to live off after he failed a DWP work capability assesment in 2017 . Mr Smith’s most debilitating illness was a Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, an incurable respiratory problem

This was the condition Steve Smith was in in hospital in December before he fought and won a tribunal allowing him vital benefits

One friend said: ‘He never really recovered from the pneumonia. He was a good soul of the earth. He would do anything for anyone.’

Mr Smith suffered with a number of serious conditions for several years, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, osteoarthritis and an enlarged prostate. He also had a colostomy bag.

Despite all of this, he failed a DWP work capability assesment in 2017 – which meant his Employment and Support Allowance payments were stopped and he was told to sign on for a £67 a week Jobseeker’s Allowance, visit the job centre once a week and prove he was looking for work.

Throughout this period, Mr Smith was living alone and didn’t know where to turn as his health deteriorated.

Suffering worrying weight loss Mr Smith said he was unable to make himself food more than once a day due to his weak legs

He said: ‘I could only make it to the kitchen to make food once a day.

‘I had no muscles in the back of my leg which meant I couldn’t stand up at all – and had to lean or sit down all the time – but they were telling me I was fit for work.’

Mr Smith enlisted the help of the CASA community centre in Liverpool which offers support to people like Stephen.

Tony Nelson, who runs the centre, introduced Mr Smith to Terry Craven, a former city council welfare officer who works at the CASA advising people on benefit claims.

After Mr Smith was denied ESA, Terry took up his case and battled with the DWP to get him the benefits he knew he deserved.

Following the successful appeal of his case a DWP spokesman said: ‘We are sorry for the experience Mr Smith has had and we are committed to ensuring that people with health conditions get the support they’re entitled to.

‘Following the independent tribunal’s ruling, he is now receiving full ESA support.

‘While Mr Smith continued to receive benefits and support during his appeal, we can confirm he will shortly receive all back-payments for ESA due.’

A service for Mr Smith will be held on Friday at 4pm at Anfield Crematorium.

Mom’s Groupon Microblading Session Goes Horribly Wrong

We all try crazy new trends in the name of beauty. But now one mom from Kansas City, Missouri, is sharing a beauty treatment she recently did that went horribly awry.

Jami Ledbetter was born without eyebrows, so she was excited when her daughters gifted her with a Groupon for a mircoblading session. But when she looked into the mirror after her treatment was completed, she was horrified by what she saw. “I would never wish this on my worst enemy,” she said.

The mom said that originally she was excited to get her eyebrows treated by a woman who claimed to be a professional.

As reported by Fox 4 KC, the 42-year-old mom had received the $250 Groupon from her daughters to get her eyebrows microbladed — a technique which involves tattooing individual eyebrow hairs with a tiny needle or small blade — in November. But what she saw the job that her technician had done, she was heartbroken.

“I was devastated,” she said of her botched brows.

Not only did Ledbetter’s self-esteem take a hit from her botched brows, she said that the man she was seeing stopped dating her.

“What it’s done to my self-confidence, it’s been hard,” she told reporters. “I was even dating a guy, and he stopped dating me at that point.”

Things were so bad that Ledbetter was embarrassed to leave her house. She said she only went to work, the grocery store, and then came home. And her attempts to cover her brows with make-up didn’t work either. Ledbetter even went to a second specialist who promised she could help “camouflage” her brows, but six weeks later, they looked even worse.

“It was pretty painful,” Ledbetter said. “I tried to have a good attitude, but it burned a lot. It kind of felt bruised.” But Ledbetter was determined to find a way to fix her brows.

“It took everything in me to hold back tears because this is the worse I’ve ever seen,” said Kara Gutierrez, a licensed and insured tattoo artist whom Ledbetter was referred to for tattoo removal.

“Within 24 hours of a botched job, I can remove the bad brow,” she said. But would she be able to save Ledbetter’s twice-botched brows?

The two had their first session in February where Gutierrez used a solution called Li-ft to help lift the pigment out of Ledbetter’s brows. The Li-ft is first tattooed into the brows and then when the brows scab, it takes the pigment with them. “It’s very unpredictable to how much you can remove, but it works,” the tattoo artist said of the treatment, which must be performed at eight-week intervals.

Now Gutierrez is warning women to be on the lookout for unlicensed microblading specialists and is speaking out about how little regulation there is.

Microblading isn’t regulated in the state of Missouri and is technically considered “semi-permanent” under the law.

“Nobody’s governing this,” Gutierrez said. “No one is saying, ‘This is the right way. This is the wrong way.'”

Right now, technicians only need a certificate to be approved to microblade, but sometimes these training sessions don’t cover best sanitation practices and the risk of blood-borne pathogens.

“The money is good [in microblading],” Missouri state Rep. Nate Tate explained. “You just take the class, pay your $2,500, and you can perform it. I think as we start seeing the propagation of these microblading shops popping up, it’s going to become more of an issue.”

And Gutierrez added that if someone is interested in microblading they need to look beyond a simple certification. “A certification is just a fancy piece of paper saying [someone] learned how to do this,” she said. “It doesn’t necessarily mean [they’re] an expert. Don’t just look into the person that’s doing it. Look into their instructor.”

This was a lesson Ledbetter had to learn the hard way. “If I would have known it was going to turn out like this, I probably would’ve never done it at all,” she said.

Most likely, Ledbetter will need two to three more sessions with Gutierrez to remove all pigment from her brow line. And in total she will need to spend $1,000 to get her eyebrows removed.

The woman who is responsible for botched eyebrows is now out of business.

5th Grade Teacher Spends All Night On Emotional Easter Surprise Until Kids Walk Into Classroom

In 2018, a kindhearted fifth grade teacher from Florida wanted to make the Easter holiday especially meaningful for his students.

Brent Walker teaches math at Sheehy Elementary School in Tampa. With a fun Easter egg hunt in mind, he went to Walmart to buy eggs for his class of 20 students. But he quickly changed his mind when he stumbled upon the aisle of premade Easter baskets, wrapped in cellophane and stuffed with all sorts of goodies, trinkets, toys, and chocolates.

However, these baskets were much more expensive than the eggs he originally planned to purchase.

So Brent came up with an idea.

He signed onto Facebook to see if anyone would be willing to sponsor his homeroom students — plus all three of his fifth grade classes. Brent expressed his desire to make sure each of his 63 kids had his or her own special basket. Many of his students come from underprivileged families, and he wasn’t sure if they’d receive anything like it at home.

Brent shared his post online, but he never expected the overwhelming response from his community.

In the clip below, Brent’s students enter the classroom and see the big surprise their teacher had spent hours preparing.

Wait until you see their faces when they see what’s waiting for them on each of their desks.

Mom Throws Build-A-Bear Party For Daughter, But Demands Guests Give Toys To Birthday Girl

A mom threw a Build-a-Bear Workshop party for her child and pulled a move that’s so bold and shocking, you’ll have to read it to believe it.

An anonymous mom held a party for her daughter’s sixth birthday and invited a bunch of her friends from school. The party involved cake, pizza, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop. So far, so good.

But after the kids finished painstakingly building their bears, the mom announced that they had to hand them over to the birthday girl. All of the bears were, apparently, for her.

Needless to say, there were a lot of tears and disappointment.

The story made it onto social media, thanks to the parent of one of the attendees.

People are having very strong reactions, because seriously, who does this?!

“I AM ANGRY AT THIS,” one Twitter user wrote.

“MONSTER,” writer Nicole Cliffe tweeted.

The bad news is that there’s not really a happy ending to this story. The good news is that it is a truly wild ride that will make you feel great about yourself in comparison!

A Reddit user shared the most stunningly awful story on /r/Parenting this week. The user was upset after a child’s birthday party took a strange turn and wanted to know if the user, whose child attended the party, was overreacting or not. Spoiler: the user was not.

The story began:

“Earlier today I went to a birthday party for my daughters (6) friend from school.”

“We had cake and pizza in the food court, then went down to BAB [Build-a-Bear] to make bears, then back to friends house for the rest of the party.”

The invitation had said that each kid would get to make a bear, and the parent assumed that the kids would take their bears home at the end. There were about eight kids at the party.

“Me and my husband even pitched in about 30 dollars as we know these things can get expensive,” the parent wrote.

The kids had a blast picking out their animals and accessories.

The parent continued:

“As far as I know the parents didn’t really put a limit, but I made my daughter stick to just a standard dog with a shirt, which about half the parents did as well. All is well, we leave the store, then friends mom announces that the kids need to give all their animals to her daughter.”

That’s right, the mom of the birthday girl made every one of the other kids give their custom bears to her daughter as a present — without warning anyone first.

“Cue the upset and angry kids.”

The parent recalled:

“They all disappointingly handed over their animals, and friend wasn’t even being nice about it either. Another little boy didn’t want to, and friend ripped it out of his hands.”

Then everyone went back to the birthday girl’s house, where they watched her play with her eight new bears.

“I felt bad so we went to build a bear and got [my own child] a new one,” the parent wrote.

The parent ended by asking whether this is “totally normal” and to be expected, or whether the user was being an “entitled parent.”

The Reddit post quickly gained a lot of attention and made it onto Twitter, because people just could not believe that a mom would really do this to other people’s kids.

Amazingly, the parent added an update on Reddit after getting a chance to talk to the birthday girl’s mom about the party. There was no remorse or acknowledgment that taking everyone’s bears was a weird/mean thing to do.

Many people on social media feel really bad for the birthday girl, whose friends are all going to resent her now.

“I’m sure all those stuffed animals will be a great comfort to this child when no one ever attends another of her birthday parties,” one user wrote.

One former Build-a-Bear Workshop employee confirmed that this is, indeed, a thing that happens.

“I used to run a BABW and had two parties where parents did the exact same terrible thing,” the employee said.

But for the most part, this is NOT how a Build-a-Bear party is supposed to go!

The whole fun part is that everyone gets to make and keep a bear. Or maybe everyone contributes something special to the birthday kid’s bear.

Hopefully the mom from this story learns something from all of this negative feedback.

“I’m beyond furious with these people,” one person tweeted. “I want to take all the bears and beat them with the bears.”

And hopefully this story serves as a cautionary tale to anyone who plans on having a Build-a-Bear birthday party in the near future! Don’t be this mom.
